3 Cities, 2 Coasts, 3 Days
For those following, Sam and I are on a 50 city tour for Blackbox Republic. We meet with a range of people across lots of different sex-positive communities. From techies, to activists, to impassioned and curious, we learn everything we can. Recently we hit three cities on two coasts in three days.
1. New York City
If you can believe it, our first night in NYC we went to 12 different LGBT bars to meet with the folks who run them. It was a machine-gun flurry of visits across an amazing range of social circles (and a lot of fun). We also had the opportunity to have a Founding Members meet up at Therapy, a hip spot which united a really diverse crowd. While we captured just a few folks on camera, it was more the personal conversations I loved. Like how some of them said that just telling their friends about Blackbox Republic has greatly evolved the sorts of conversations they’ve now having with them.
During the day, we also met with met with our agency, WeMultiply, who are helping us with our new website so that we can stay busy building out the application for our community.
2. Portland
Straight off the plane from NYC and with 3 hours of sleep, we headed to Portland’s ErosFestival held at the Hotel Jupiter. ErosFest is a new annual festival and provided a wide range of options for a big crowd. They had everything from fire spinners, to art shows, music and lots of creative vendors. It was good to see a big event chock-filled with sex-positive people celebrating art and community. Hats off to Gabrielle for pulling it all together and making it such a success.
3. San Francisco
Have I mentioned we don’t sleep too much?
After a quick 3 hr nap it was down to San Francisco. First we had a radio interview on “Sexploration with Monika” (she’s also a Founding Member). Then it was off to meet with more Founding Members at the Hotel Vitale. It was a diverse turn out from marketers, activists, techies, a CEO, and even a Burning Man staffer. Unfortunately, we were too exhausted to take any pictures or video.
I hope these little glimpses into our grassroots tour help paint a picture of what we’re up to. If you’d like to meet with us sometime, just drop us a line and we’d love to meet you in person. Phew! Now for some sleep. Yeah, right.
